Myagdi: Mustang, the picturesque region nestled in the heart of Nepal, has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism, with the number of tourists visiting the area soaring by an impressive 45.75 percent in the fiscal year 2079/80 BS, as reported by the Area Conservation office of Jomsom, under the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP).
According to Ashok Subedi, the In-charge of ACAP Jomsom, a total of 71,707 foreign tourists ventured into Mustang during the fiscal year 2079/80 BS, demonstrating a substantial increase compared to the preceding fiscal year, 2078/79 BS, which saw 38,896 tourists entering the region. This upswing in visitors amounts to over 32,811 more tourists exploring the wonders of Mustang during the 2079/80 fiscal year.
The data also indicates a significant influx of tourists from neighboring SAARC member countries, with a total of 59,310 visitors making their way to Mustang in the same period. Additionally, 6,749 tourists arrived from countries outside the SAARC bloc, showcasing the region's allure on an international scale.
Notably, the semi-prohibited area of Upper Mustang experienced its own influx of visitors, with 3,388 tourists exploring the culturally rich and historically significant region during the fiscal year 2079/80.
Various factors contributed to this remarkable increase in tourist arrivals. The region's favorable weather conditions, coupled with improved road accessibility, have made it more enticing for travelers from across the globe. Moreover, the availability of comfortable hotel and lodge facilities has provided tourists with a welcoming and pleasant stay experience.
Another significant aspect that has bolstered tourism in Mustang is the minimal occurrence of natural disasters, reassuring tourists of their safety during their visit.
